Training Sessions

DragonWave Horizon Installer Certification Course

  • Course is targeted at microwave radio installers, supervisors or product managers who intend to install DragonWave Horizon microwave equipment. This is a 2 day course for a single Horizon product with 1 day added for each additional product requested.  
  • Maximum capacity of 10 students.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Working knowledge of IP networking and RF
  • Course Content:
    • Addresses the unique aspects of DragonWave equipment and the most common issues faced by installers, to increase speed and efficiency in performing installations.
    • Provides a solid understanding of DragonWave systems and the interfaces used to configure them
    • Installation and alignment of DragonWave equipment, including  hands-on alignment training
  • Includes hands-on component, and a knowledge test. Attendees who successfully complete the course will earn “DragonWave Certified Installer” certification.

DragonWave Horizon Advanced Troubleshooting Course

  • Course targeted at 2nd level technical staff responsible for network operation and management, and those responsible to troubleshooting DragonWave Horizon microwave networks and resolving network issues. This is a 2 day course for a single Horizon product with 1 day added for each additional product requested.    
  • Maximum capacity of 10 students.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Working knowledge of IP networking and strong foundation in RF
    • Solid understanding of DragonWave systems and the interfaces used to configure them
    • Previous extensive installation and alignment experience with DragonWave equipment or previous experience with management, monitoring and troubleshooting of DragonWave equipment
    • Basic troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic utilities
  • Course Content:
    • Troubleshooting approaches for DragonWave Horizon equipment
    • Identification and isolation of problem area:  RF, Interference, Ethernet, and issues with basic and advanced feature operation
    • Introduction & discussion on advanced feature groups (ATPC, QoS, etc.)
    • Use of troubleshooting tools including DragonWave Merlin Utilities
  • Includes hands-on component. Attendees who successfully complete the course will earn a certificate of completion.

Harmony Network Operator's Certificate

  • 2-day course targeted at individuals who manage and maintain DragonWave Harmony networks.  
  • Maximum capacity of 10 students.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Working knowledge of IP networking and strong foundation in RF
    • Solid understanding of DragonWave systems and the interfaces used to configure them
    • Basic troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic utilities
  • Course Content:
    • Configuration, Operation and Management of DragonWave Harmony Products in a network environment.  Use of Web GUI, HTTP, and SNMP for management.
    • Addresses device management via SNMP by NMS and EMS devices including MIBs and OIDs, integrating DragonWave devices into NMS, use of DragonWave’s NMS/EMS, and example use of NMS and EMS to manage DragonWave Devices.
    • Includes product overview, bandwidth capabilities, basic and advanced features, configuration of basic and advanced features, device redundancy, device management and device troubleshooting approaches
    • Important Operational Measures and Performance Monitoring, trap and alarm handling, 
    • Use of DragonWave Merlin Utilities for troubleshooting
  • Includes hands-on component, and a knowledge test. Attendees who successfully complete the course will earn a certificate of completion.

DragonWave Network Planning

  • 1-day session targeted at individuals responsible for designing DragonWave Harmony networks. Primarily aimed at RF Engineers, Network Planners, and Sales Engineers.
  • Maximum capacity of 10 students.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Familiarity of MW/RF design, limited knowledge of Pathloss 5.0 or other RF engineering tools
  • Course Content:
    • High level product overview of Harmony or Horizon products
    • Microwave Link Engineering:  path clearance, line of sight, typical microwave models
    • Network design, Ethernet networking, network architecture options, redundancy, traffic considerations, frequency selection and trade-offs, FCC licensing process
    • Site development considerations: Fiber POP planning, site selection, twist and sway calculations, Ring vs Remote sites
    • Capacity Engineering, Network Engineering,  Service availability, Microwave design deliverables
    • Pathloss familiarity
    • Advanced Network Planning Criteria: OFDM, TDD, MIMO, Frequency Planning and Interference Analysis
  • Includes hands-on component if students have a working copy of Pathloss 5.0 on their laptop and a knowledge test at the end of the session. 

General NetViewer Network Management System

  • 2-day course targeted at individuals who manage and/or maintain DragonWave networks using DragonWave’s NetViewer Network and Element Management System. 
  • Maximum capacity 10 students.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Working knowledge of Windows or Unix/Linux operating systems with respect to installation of applications (recommended, but not mandatory)
    • Working knowledge of SNMP management, OIDs and MIBs.
  • Course Content: 
    • System administration, database backup, User account management and security
    • Device discovery and population of network map.  Navigation within the NMS/EMS, use of the network map, use color coding for various network element status, Connectivity and access to network elements via NetViewer NMS/EMS.  Includes HTTP, CLI/Telnet, SSH
    • Use of Configuration menus, Information menus, and Inventory information
    • Performance management and monitoring.  Performance graphing.
    • Alarm and trap management,  categorization and prioritization of traps, alarm acknowledgement, alarm filtering, alarm history, exporting of alarms to .csv file, alarm balloons and alarm count
    • Device redundancy and testing of redundancy using NetViewer
    • Use of DragonWave Merlin Utilities for troubleshooting
  • Includes hands-on component, and a knowledge test. Attendees who successfully complete the course will earn a certificate of completion.

NetViewer Harmony-Related Course

  • 1 to 3-days course depending on the number of plugins required

  • Targeted at individuals who manage and/or maintain DragonWave transport networks using DragonWave’s NetViewer focusing on each plug-in of DragonWave’s Harmony equipment including Harmony Radio, Harmony Radio Lite, Harmony First Mile, Harmony Hub, and Harmony Trunk.
  • Maximum Capacity of 10 students
  • Prerequisites:
    • Completion of NetViewer General Course
    • Overview with DragonWave Harmony radio equipment (Harmony Radio, Harmony Radio Lite, Harmony First Mile, Harmony Hub, and Harmony Trunk)
  • Course Content:
    • Overview of NetViewer Architecture, hardware configurations, and software components
    • Overview of NetViewer GUI administration
    • Overview of product functionality and security
    • Use of configuration menu including port management, backup, inventory management, logs, time configurations and synchronization
    • Use of measurement counters and NE severity including major, minor, and critical alarms
  • Includes hands-on component for each of the above-mentioned plug-ins if students have a working copy of NetViewer on their laptops and a testbed including the Harmony Radio equipment required.

Path Manager Course

  • 2-day course targeted at individuals who manage and/or maintain DragonWave transport networks using DragonWave’s NetViewer software.
  • Maximum Capacity of 10 students
  • Prerequisites:
    • Completion of NetViewer General Course
  • Course Content:
    • Overview of the system architecture, components, and requirements of NetViewer and Path Manager
    • Installation and required network configurations of Path Manager for Packets
    • Use of system menu including connections and sub-network panels, routing features, and path structure window
    • Path Manager for Packet installation, configuration, and maintenance
    • E2E Ethernet services concepts, automatic discovery, and provisioning
  • Includes hands-on component if students have a working copy of NetViewer and Path Manager on their laptops and connection to a testbed. 

Harmony Enhanced Installer Certification

 

  • 3-day course is targeted at microwave radio installers, supervisors or product managers who intend to install Harmony Radio.  
  • Maximum capacity of 10 students.

  • Course Content:
    • Overview of Harmony Radio Features

Harmony HUB 800 Installer Certification

  • Prerequisites: None
  • Course Content: 
    • Covers product overview, building blocks, device operation in a network, 
    • Installation, operation, maintenance, commissioning and administration
  • Includes hands-on component. Attendees who successfully complete the course will earn a certificate of completion

Harmony Radio Lite

  • 2-day course addressing the Harmony Radio Lite product including basic and advanced features, use of Harmony Radio Lite in the network, installation, configuration, management and common troubleshooting approaches. 
  • Is geared towards microwave personnel who intend to sell or design and Harmony Radio Lite microwave devices in the network, as well as those who desire a detailed understanding of the product.
  • Maximum capacity 10 students.
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Course Content: 
    • Covers product overview, building blocks, device operation in a network, 
    • Installation, configuration of basic and advanced features, management and troubleshooting
    • Use of DragonWave Merlin Utilities for troubleshooting

Harmony Eband Installer Certification
